Resources and Support

The Graduate Resource Center offers in-person workshops and webinars to students interested in applying to master’s or doctoral degree programs. Topics include exploring graduate programs, preparing application components, and establishing a timeline for application submission.

Visit the GRC Workshops webpage to see the schedule and to sign up to attend.

Writing Consultants in the Graduate Resource Center are available to provide feedback to students on drafts of their personal statements and statements of purpose for grad school applications. Writing Consultants focus their feedback on whether the program prompts are addressed, whether the student’s academic goals, career aspirations, and relevant experiences are described, and whether the statements are tailored to the specific program to which the student is applying.

To make a Writing Consultation appointment, follow the instructions on our homepage. Or, in your MyCalStateLA portal, find "Navigate LA Appointment Scheduling" and select the "Graduate Writing Assistance" service.

The California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education (or simply the Diversity Forum) is a statewide student success initiative designed to connect underrepresented students to opportunities for graduate education. This all-day event takes place annually and features workshops, panels, and a recruitment fair for students interested in applying to graduate school.

This year, the event will take place on Saturday, October 19, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at UC Riverside.

For more information, and to register, visit the Diversity Forum webpage.

The Office of Graduate Studies coordinates the California Pre-Doctoral Program (Pre-Doc) and the Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP), the two future faculty programs of the CSU system. The Pre-Doc program provides funding and support to help CSU students gain admission into Ph.D. programs while the CDIP provides funding and support to currently enrolled Ph.D. students who wish to become faculty members at a CSU campus. The 2025-2026 applications for these programs will open around November 2024.

For more information about these two programs, visit the Pre-Doc and CDIP webpage.
